About Big Sky Stringband
Big Sky Stringband was born in Chicago in 2002. The band leaders Chis Meyer on mandolin, Jay Stanek on Guitar both share the singing duties. Matt Mallory on lead guitar, Dick Mallory on Bass, Bob Bechstein on drums. We are not a conventional Bluegrass band as we have percussion.
Shady Grove and Salt River are two classics we cover. We have over 120 songs including covers from Bob Dylan, The Band, Grateful Dead to name a few. Our band has played over 150 shows since its inception as well as two WXRT shows, (Cubby Bear (Addison) and The Field Museum opening for Rusted Root).
We have opened for Sam Bush,Galactic,Trombone shorty, Nick Tremulous and Back Yard Tire Fire.
Venues include, Martyrs, DoubleDoor, Barrington Brew Festival (6 years), The Hide Out & The Sundance Saloon.
